Manjunathan - a goodbye

one of our alumnus, a part of our IIM family, shot dead. It pains...

A brutal reward for accomplishing his duties sincerely... and no coverage in and leading dailies!!
We here are not gonna keep silent. something needs to be done. i fitting reply needs to be given. Its a loss of not only his family, not only IIM, not only IOCL but its a loss of our nation.

Time and again people are given painful reward for their honesty and values... god where are you?? Its certainly not a motivator for me and my friends to follow the right path.
If the culprits go around scotfree, it will a shame... a slap on the face of humanity.

People wake up... it might be your chance next!

Diary - Glossary

They say its good to write a diary, an account of ones life... something you can read later, learn from mistakes... but will it be worth the effort? Well i am not writing this to read later or to improve my writing skills or to create witnesses to my life... may be it will help me remember my past better in case i plan to write a book and earn some cash!! My life has been pretty interesting and i guess will always be interesting...

To describe my surroundings and to define a few words which i'll be using often...
CR107 - this is our classroom in our first year. In 'Calvin' style... 'time enters a no passing zone in this room'.

Section E - this is my section(our batch is divided into 5 sections named A - E). Arguably the coolest section among all... We have 3 cars owners, many committee members, more girls than any other section, people who can be spotted in places like Ganj and waves all the days of the week and even in places like Bridge workshop, half of the strength is constituted by Section E.

pp(standing for mlnpp Prasanth), Ruchita, Maddy(Priyesh Madhukar), Prasun - My benchmates
i cant list the names of all my 56 friends of my section, so i'll mention the rest as and when required

Prof Rudra(called Rudro) - Eco Prof.
Prof Sahay - OM prof who starts each class with a prayer
Prof Anjani Koomar - sometimes also called Pain Koomar for his unending enthusiasm for making people learn
Prof Vipul - Manac II, has replaced AKM a self proclaimed AK47
Prof Purwar - teaches Marketing, the most easy going prof we got... ' Lets look at this more closely'
Prof Bhattacharya, also called Golu, True sense... teaches us QAM and tries very hard to make us understand...

Our class is in shape of a semi circle, with a projector fixed to the ceiling and an old 3M OHP facing the black board. It is air-conditioned, with primitive but still, reclining chairs who are on steps, so the back benches are elevated. It has a big clock on the rear wall, which seems like an old cat to us and like a wild dog to the profs. It has big windows with curtains drawn blocking the light and making use of artificial light necessary.. in all some 24 tubelights function throughout the class timings... It also has a big screen for projector which can be scrolled up and down.
A wide dice on which we give our presentations... and finally we have fixed seating arrangements so we sit according to destiny and not by our own design.

i guess this is it about our classroom...

so guess my diary wont need explanations... more later

Oculus

Oculus is the literary committee of IIM L and it is apt that i write about it here as it is one of the few good things happened to me at IIM... well i am one of the 9 member team. Our responsibilities include getting IIMPulse - the monthly newsletter, published, conducting Ocumen, a unique event involving students from across the nation, conducting vichaar, a creative writing competition and Publishing IIM Prints, the memory of IIML which each passing students carries...

For me, Oculus is not only about conducting and publishing, its about learning... the tag line goes... Communicate-Resonate-Exist!! Its been an association of a little over 3 months, but i presonally feel oculus will be something which i'll cherish for a long long time...

the 9 heads(we are looking for one more which will make us similar to dashanan) of oculus are Abhilash(Doc), Alok, kapil, Supriya, Shad, Tuhina, Himanshu, Karthik and yup me. Kapil and Shad have gone to some foreign univ under Stex(or student exchange programme), i havent had much interaction with them, rest of the senior oculus is Cool!! i am really enjoying working with them. Interaction with Doc is somehow limited but we share something else... love for riding bikes!!
junior oculus, meaning i need to include Karthik and Himanshu... both of them play good team mates...

Ocumen, which will be held on 8th Jan is a key event. we have started slogging for its success. If it does go national reach the level we want it to achieve... it will be something amazing... never thought of, a unique event... so... get, set and go... vrrrooooom

Reflections

Thinking about my past, i feel i have been extremely lucky (do i believe in luck? well i'll talk about it later). i have had a great childhood, lovely parents, who incidently are both university professors, a caring bro, i did well in school, got into IIT in first attempt with a great rank, even cleared CAT and am here at IIM... but... probably grass is greener on the other side...
school days are lost into past but IIT is still fresh into my memory...

At IIT, in First year, we were alloted a triple seated room. hmmm... i wouldn't say cool, but nice roomies... one guy named M. Kartik Narayanan, a tamalian the other Vivekanand Kumar.. both of them hard working and studious. but my company, as i am, was made up of people who used to chill and enjoy... to name a few, Naresh Ranvah (i call him nulls) Devashish Mittal (called debo), Siddharth Sharma aka sid, AR kiran (we called him Munna coz of his habit of remembering home often), then there were HKD, Hati, Satti, Loney, Dheela, Gandi, Chitra, bala... seems i had been blessed with a whole bunch of GOD's
years went by, we changed rooms, we changed wings, we passed courses, we learnt new games... Fete, Hostel Night and various competitions were there to keep me busy...

My local guardians need a special mention. they got transferred to Chennai just a few days before i reached IIT M (I got lucky again!!) and what a family... it was and still is a second home for me.

Then it happened...
my final year project(i'll write about this sometime later) was finally over and it was time to leave. i had a call from IIM lucknow... and i came to Lucknow...
Spencer, Besent Nagar Beach, Esphani centre, CCD, GRT, my campus, Tanu, shweta, mausiji, hostel mates, chennai... all are still with me...

coming to terms with reality, here i am, in my second term, struggling with variuos courses, trying to figure out why i am here, what i am doing here, what i plan to get out of here, what lies ahead of me... life seems a puzzle... several links are missing

i cant possibly cover my life in a single blog, further glimpses of my past will follow...

Test blog

wow!! today i start blogging... i have thought about starting a blog so many times... yet never actually went ahead. today i was generally passing time.. reading blogs of friends and suddenly, here i am...
i love writing and hope i post regularly...

well about me!! a simple person... graduate from IIT madras, currently pursuing an MBA from IIM L...
workload, deadlines, pains, stress, assignments, surprises...

life is beautiful...
